  • Motivation: using Emacs to collect new word for TOEFL preparatioin
    

  • Note:

    • google-translate is great except unusable in Mainland China (I don’t know how to tweak it). Phonetic transcription of Google Translate usually make me confused.
    • bing-dict works in Mainland China, but provided information is too limited (in minibuffer). Phonetic transcription of bing-dict is okay.

    When I read the code of bing-dict, the following idea comes to my mind.

    Grab information from web (e.g. baidu translate, Merriam Webster Dictionary, Oxford Learner’s Dictionaries, etc) like bing-dict using Elisp (or using R/Python then source the R/Python’s scripts from Emacs).
